David K.Thomas began his duties as Director of Education and Secretary to the Board for the Upper Canada District School Board in December 2003. He started
his career as an elementary school teacher and has close to three decades of experience in education.

David is a proven leader, having overseen numerous projects concerning school improvement, community relations and policy development. David has instilled a new level of focus and pride in public education through the implementation of Upper Canada DSB’s 15-year strategic plan, known as CREW – Communication, Equitable Distribution of Resources, Educational Programs and Wellness. His leadership has yielded concrete results. The board’s progress over the past five years in provincial testing scores has surpassed that of the province.

David is highly respected for volunteering in his community. His many awards include the Malton Community Award, Sportsman of the Year Award for the City of Peterborough and the National Award from the Canadian Lacrosse Association. David is a gold medalist coach in the Ontario Lacrosse Association.
