Dr. Barbara Plake
Learning and Assessment: Working Together to Achieve Success for All Learners

Dr. Barbara Plake earned her B.A. in mathematics at the University of Colorado and her M.A. and Ph.D. in educational measurement and statistics from the University of Iowa. She has been on the faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln since 1977, currently as an emeritus distinguished professor. She is the former director of the Buros Center for Testing, which works to improve tests and testing practices. She was awarded a university-wide Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award and has been a distinguished university professor since 1996.

Dr. Plake was the president of the National Council on Measurement in Education in 1992 and serves in leadership roles for several professional organizations. She was the 2005 recipient of the Association of Test Publishers’ Career Achievement Award, and in 2006 she received the Career Award from the National Council on Measurement in Education. She is a consultant on testing with several states and organizations. Her research focuses on classroom assessment practices, computerized testing, and on methods for determining the passing score on high-stakes tests, such as those for high-school graduation eligibility decisions.
